Maradona and the Hand of God
We’ve all heard of the funny imitation place names like the New Zealand town of Waikickamoocow, or the Australian one of Kickatinalong, but what about the real ones? We should add that these place names are funny to an English speaker, but if we wanted to open a can of worm’s we could comment on town names that sound funny in other languages. For example I took a liking to a Pass in the former German speaking part of France that is Col de Hundsruck, which is Dog’s Back Pass in English. So without further delay>

Australia: Waggaa Wagga, Tumbi Umbi, Kangy Angy or Wybong (Why not?), Chinaman’s Knob, Humpty Doo, Koolyanobbing, Poowong

Canada: Moose Jaw, Dildo, Community Punch Bowl, Bugaboos, Skookomchuck, Aachikaayusaakaasich Portage, Passamaquoddy Bay, Grizzly Bear’s Head & The Lean Man
Colombia: Fusagasuga
Denmark: Middelfart
United States: Looneyville, No Name, Hooker (this is most funny of their own doing, a hooker is only a prostitue in the Us and A), Pussy Creek, Poopoo (Hawaii), Boring, French Lick
Austria: Fucking, Frickenhausen, Windpassing
England: Beer, Cockshot, Crackpot, Dicks Mount, Faggot (that another US thing), Hampton Gay, Old Sodbury, Thong, Ugley, Wetwang, Wormegay
Switzerland: Rapperswil
Sweden: Fjuckby (for some reason the people of this town want to change the name), Pissholmen

France: Anus ( this means exactly the same in French as in English), Condom ( this again is the same)
Scotland: Twat
Northern Ireland: Muff
Thailand: the great European translation of Thai “Krung Thep” which becomes Bangkok. Not a bad one either?
If you want to further your search, the funny names you’ll find in the Untied States, Canada, Britain and Australia will certainly make you laugh for a while.
Though in my investigations I came up with many good ones; but none that made me laugh more than Felch Square in Wales.
